Ingredients
1 lb ground beef (80% lean, 20% fat)
1/4 cup milk
1 egg
1/2 cup plain breadcrumbs
1 small onion, finely chopped and sautéed
2 cloves garlic, minced and sautéed
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup ketchup (for glaze)
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, milk, egg, breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
Shape the mixture into a loaf and place in a loaf pan or on a baking sheet.
Spread ketchup evenly over the top for glazing.
Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
Let rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing.
Notes
Avoid overmixing the meat to prevent a dense, rubbery texture.
Sauté onions and garlic before adding to mellow their sharpness.
Use coarser breadcrumbs for a lighter loaf.
Resting the meatloaf after baking helps retain moisture.
