A classic Southern recipe for homemade peanut brittle. This sweet and crunchy candy is a beloved holiday staple, perfect for sharing with family and friends.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups granulated sugar

  • 1 cup light corn syrup

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 2 cups raw peanuts

  • 2 tablespoons butter

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • A pinch of salt

Instructions

 

  1. In a large saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.

  2. Add the raw peanuts and continue cooking. Stir constantly until the mixture reaches a golden brown color, around 300°F (hard crack stage).

  3. Remove from heat and quickly stir in butter, vanilla, baking soda, and salt.

  4. Pour the mixture onto a greased baking sheet and spread it thin.

  5. Allow it to cool completely before breaking it into pieces.

Notes

For the best results, use a candy thermometer to ensure you reach the correct temperature. Be careful when handling the hot sugar mixture.
